Frequently asked questions

Get answers to the most common questions we get from parks directors and other city staff. Contact our team for more information.

What type of weather does Perry Weather monitor?

Perry Weather’s software and weather stations monitor real-time lightning strikes, live and forecasted heat stress measurements, live and future radar, wind speed, temperature, humidity, air quality index (AQI), wind chill, rainfall totals and more.

Our system also tracks and stores easily-downloadable historical weather data for your location.

How does Perry Weather detect lightning?

Perry Weather detects all lightning strikes within your area down to 100 meters of accuracy, using the same National Lightning Detection Network trusted by the U.S. Coast Guard and NASA.

No more scrambling to figure out what to do when lightning strikes. Our system gives you an accurate weather forecast, sends alerts based on your policies, and triggers an outdoor warning system to alert everyone else, ensuring a coordinated, swift response to keep everyone safe.

Learn more about lightning detection and how Perry Weather’s advanced lightning detection system works.

Does Perry Weather support multi-jurisdictional or regional deployments?

Yes! Our platform can manage weather data and alerts across multiple jurisdictions or regions from a single, centralized dashboard, optimizing coordination and response times.

How can my staff members access the software? How do we set up users?

Our team will set you up with as many users as you need so you can assure your whole staff, including parks managers, maintenance staff and event planners are on the same page when it comes to daily weather monitoring and alerting. Talk with our team today about our options for both full-access and notification-only users.

Can visitors and the general public access the Perry Weather software?

Full access to Perry Weather’s software is intended to keep your staff like parks directors and maintenance crew on the same page. Our system can seamlessly integrate with city websites, facility TVs and scoreboards so you can display real-time weather forecasts, including radar and lightning strike timers, for the public to access at all times.

What’s the difference between Perry Weather and a free weather app?

Free weather apps are best for personal use, but extremely limited for use for cities, organizations and businesses.

With free apps, you can’t build weather safety policies that automatically notify your organization or the general public about what action needs to be taken in a weather safety situation, or plan ahead for outdoor activities. Additionally, the weather data from free apps are usually only updated hourly – not in real time – and is collected from the nearest airport, which is often miles away, so the information does not reflect local weather conditions. Perry Weather enables you to streamline your weather policies with real-time, hyper-local weather data.

Perry Weather also tracks additional metrics like lightning, wet bulb globe temperature (WBGT), road conditions, air quality and wind conditions.

How does Perry Weather compare with other lightning detection systems?

We use lightning detection data from the National Lightning Detection Network, which is the same network trusted by the U.S. Coast Guard and NASA.

Some lightning safety platforms claim to be able to “predict” lightning strikes, but that can result in phantom alerts and inaccurate notifications. Perry Weather lets you know when actual lightning strikes are detected, where they were detected, and when it’s safe to resume activity, period.

Plus, our notifications are generally 2-3 minutes faster than other networks – valuable time that can help you take action faster and protect lives.

Do we need to give you access to our Wi-Fi?

Perry Weather units are completely wireless and use cellular networks to provide strong connection at all times. Have poor cellular service in your area? Our built-in cellular VPN will always connect to the carrier with the best current signal ensuring a positive connection.

Say goodbye to weather uncertainty 👋
