2026 Athletic Trainer Excellence Awards

Congratulations to our 2026 Athletic Trainer Excellence Award Winner, Windee Skrabanek. 🎉

Meet This Year’s winner, Windee Skrabanek.

Coach Skrabanek serves athletes, peers and parents on and off the field.

“The most SELFLESS human I know. We are better because of her and her service.”

  • Drives athletes to medical appointments, sits with them in hospitals, and advocates for them at doctor visits when their parents can’t be there.

  • Coordinates community pep rallies, organizes nursing home visits with her trainers, runs sock drives for the local homeless shelter, and leads breast cancer awareness fundraisers.

  • Has rebuilt two athletic training programs from the ground up — both flourished under her leadership.

She’s leaving a lasting legacy.

“I would have never made it to where I’m at without her support.” — A Former Student

  • Grew Temple’s student athletic training program from 3 students to over 30 — many now certified ATs, coaches, and healthcare professionals.

  • Brings 5th graders into the Temple HS world — letting them serve as ball boys, assistant athletic trainers, and finding ways to mentor them from elementary school onward.

  • 24 years in, her former athletes still call her — for surgical advice, life decisions, and second opinions long after they’ve graduated.

The 2026 Next Gen Athletic Trainer

Congratulations to Adara Ragsdale, our first ever Next Gen Athletic Trainer

“More than a caretaker — she’s a mentor ensuring every athlete thrives on and off the field.”

  • Under her guidance, injuries are down 25% at Spring Valley and nearly 40% of her athletes have earned college scholarships.

  • Partners with sports psychologists, nutritionists, and strength coaches to build complete recovery plans for her athletes.

  • She’s made herself available 24/7 during competitive stretches, racing from weekend clinics straight to the sidelines.

  • Founded the Athlete Safe Start program for middle-schoolers, extending injury prevention before kids ever reach high school.

Congrats to our runners up

About Perry Weather’s AT Excellence Awards

More Than Just a Sideline Presence

At Perry Weather, we focus on safety and policies, but the reality is, weather preparedness isn’t possible without the people on the ground. Our athletic trainers are the very foundation of our mission. While we help monitor the weather, we recognize that this is only a small part of their demanding jobs.

The reality is their jobs involve so much more than meets the eye, and their tireless work for athlete health and safety often goes under-appreciated. While the success of sports programs is typically measured by the performance of athletes and coaches, athletic trainers—who are often the first and last on the field—remain the unsung heroes.

Impact That Lasts a Lifetime

Hosting these awards is our way of honoring the dedication they bring to their schools. From collaborating with administrators to ensuring athletic opportunities are accessible to all, ATs leave a lasting imprint on their communities and serve as leaders during the students’ most impressionable years.

Our mission is to provide an opportunity for student athletes, parents, and administrators to give these vital educators the visibility they truly deserve. This program is a small part of a larger conversation to raise awareness of the taxing, essential role ATs play in education.

FAQs

What are the AT Excellence Awards?

Every year, Perry Weather hosts a nationwide awards program to recognize outstanding athletic trainers. These nominated ATs demonstrate exceptional commitment to student-athlete safety, emergency preparedness, and community care. Now in its fourth year, the AT Excellence Awards are held in March in honor of National Athletic Training Month. For the first time, two distinct awards will be presented.

When do submissions for the 2026 AT Excellence Awards close?

Submissions to nominate athletic trainers close on Friday, March 27th, 2026.

When will the winners of the 2026 AT Excellence Awards be announced?

The winners will be announced on Wednesday, April 15th, 2026.

What is the difference between the Next Gen AT Excellence Award and the AT Excellence Award?

This is the first year two different awards for the AT Excellence Awards will be offered. We wanted to recognize both veteran athletic trainers who have served in their profession for decades and also younger trainers who are already making a difference early in their careers.

How are the winners selected?

Each submission receives careful consideration and detailed review. The final selection process is a company-wide effort that every Perry Weather employee is involved in.

What prizes will winners receive?

$2,000 to their chosen sports medicine scholarship fund, Perry Weather swag, a tactical sling bag, and more!

Say goodbye to weather uncertainty 👋
